DevLog 4 - Character Origins

This update reflects the final component of the base character information/creation sections.  Next update will begin to focus on the encounter system, proper.

Origins are the term we use for more typical fantasy races, or my preferred species, or any number of other terms.  Origins is settled on because in the actual core game, some of the options are certainly not a race, nor quite species, necessarily.  Indeed, some options may simply be members of a certain fantasy race or species, but afforded special mechanics for some other reason.

Ideally, each Origins has something good and something bad associated with it - a benefit and something to struggle with.  For humans, the benefit is not having a negative feature.

Brass and Bone core features different Origins than are put in this update or the SRD, but they function similarly.

Origins

Humans dominate a great many lands and planes, but they are not alone in the universe.  A character’s origin denotes their species – or what separates them from their own or other species.

Humans are written to be the baseline, and so do not get any special Traits.

Brass and Bone includes a number of origins unique (relatively) to its world.  This SRD includes possible interpretations of more traditional fantasy species.  Brass and Bone also assumes humans are much more likely to be part of the crew; the following table has two sets of probabilities, one d66 favoring humans, and one d6 with a more equal distribution.
